Xbox Reportedly Targets PlayStation’s Main Feature With Achievement System
Xbox has launched its own equivalent to platinum trophies, which automatically unlocks even for games completed many years ago and is currently available primarily to Xbox Insiders members.
Xbox has launched its own version of PlayStation platinum trophies, introducing mythical achievements that unlock even for previously completed games.
For nearly two decades, PlayStation maintained an advantage in completionist reward systems by offering players platinum trophies. Microsoft is now rolling out its own “mythical achievements” for users, primarily targeting members of the Xbox Insiders program.
Xbox was the first to introduce a virtual reward system with the launch of the Xbox 360 in 2005 and Gamerscore points, while Sony introduced trophies featuring the platinum award for completing all game tasks three years later. Microsoft’s new system includes backward compatibility, meaning mythical achievements will unlock automatically for previously finished games dating back to the Xbox 360 era. Developers will not need to update older projects or alter their code.

The launch of this feature is linked to new leadership within Microsoft’s gaming division, headed by Asha Sharma, which aims to address longstanding player complaints and compete with Sony on user experience.
