Xbox Game Pass brought Microsoft a record $5 billion in a year

In an interview, Xbox president Sarah Bond addressed questions about the long-term viability of the subscription model. She said Game Pass — which offers hundreds of titles for a single recurring fee — not only breaks even but has reached a new milestone.

She reported that the service’s revenue reached a record $5 billion. Bond emphasized that Game Pass is advantageous for developers as well — studio payouts are rising, which helps make the model sustainable for the wider industry.

Her comments bolster Microsoft’s view of subscriptions as a cornerstone of its gaming strategy. When asked whether the price of Game Pass might be “too low” given what it provides, Bond responded that the model is working and that the number of participating studios grows every year.

Discussing the brand’s future, the head of Xbox said the company will keep prioritizing convenience and flexibility. Microsoft plans to keep investing in cloud services and technologies that simplify play and extend innovations across the Windows ecosystem. She also highlighted ongoing collaboration with AMD and work on next-generation consoles.
