Wisin is set to receive the Premio Oro at the annual Premios Heat on July 1 in honor of his 18-year trajectory as a singer, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur.
“There’s been amazing moments and difficult moments,” he tells Billboard ahead of the 2021 Premios Heat in the Dominican Republic, where he will also perform a medley of his biggest hits. “But I thank God for all of those people who have always been there with their unconditional support. The protagonists of my career are my fans.”
Wisin is currently enjoying the massive success that his single “Fiel” with Los Legendarios and Jhay Cortez is having. The song is one of Billboard’s Best Songs of 2021 (So Far) and includes a fiery remix with Anuel and Myke Towers.
“I wanted to do a big remix and include Yandel, Zion, Rauw Alejandro, but I went with those two. I have three elite artists of the new generation,” he adds.
The urbano hitmaker, who became a household name with reggaeton duo Wisin y Yandel, says he’s characterized by uniting cultures and voices. He tells Billboard exclusively that a “spectacular” song with Camilo is on the way in addition to a major collaboration with Ozuna, Karol G, and Jhay Cortez. “I know people will be talking about it,” he assures.
But one of his most promising reveals is a new Wisin y Yandel album in the works.
“When our fans ask for it we have to let them know we’re here,” he says. “We have a solid audience […] a beautiful future is nearing.”
