Why Marvel Rivals Removed Loki: Explained by New Character Reveal
NetEase Games has officially pulled back the curtain on Marvel Rivals Season 10, accompanied by an explosive announcement trailer that delivers a few major surprises. As the development team has teased for weeks, the upcoming season places the fearsome Gorr the God Butcher front and center. Even before making his debut as a playable fighter, the legendary Thor antagonist is already living up to his infamous moniker.
The cinematic trailer captures Gorr launching a brutal assault on Asgard and clashing directly with Loki. By driving All-Black the Necrosword straight through the God of Mischief, he seemingly seals his fate. Interestingly, the game’s character selection screen immediately mirrors this narrative shift: Loki is currently listed as deceased and remains unplayable. It is a clever, immersive touch that weaves the overarching plot directly into gameplay, though it certainly spells trouble for the other immortals roaming the battlefield. With Season 10 scheduled to launch on September 11, fans won’t have to wait long for Loki’s eventual return—though how the story justifies his resurrection remains to be seen.
Gorr the God Butcher: Release Date and Abilities in Marvel Rivals
Gorr will become available on the exact day Season 10 drops. Operating as a Duelist, he fulfills the traditional role of a high-damage DPS character in Marvel Rivals. Armed with All-Black, he can dynamically shift weapons to adapt to changing combat scenarios. Whenever Gorr successfully eliminates opponents, ghostly Black Berserkers rise from their remnants to sustain the offensive momentum. Furthermore, his kit features exceptional mobility through rapid dashing and teleportation. His ultimate ability supercharges All-Black, unleashing a devastating flurry of strikes alongside a summoned legion of empowered Black Berserkers.
Alongside Gorr, Season 10 introduces a brand-new Domination map titled God Quarry. On the cosmetic front, NetEase Games is rolling out the “Jeff’s Dream Eater” event, rewarding players with a charming assortment of pajama-themed outfits for various heroes. Despite earlier speculation suggesting that additional X-Men might join the roster during the latter half of the season, NetEase confirmed that Gorr will stand as the sole new hero introduction for Season 10. Instead, the back half of the update will pivot toward phases three and four of the ongoing “Path to Doomsday” event, bringing fresh game modes inspired by the MCU’s iconic Avengers films.
