The 2021 BET Awards celebrated not only the best in R&B/hip-hop, but also Black women’s contribution to culture, while delivering a star-studded lineup for jaw-dropping performances.
Among them was Migos, who performed “Straightenin” and “Type Shit” off their latest album, Culture III. The biggest surprise from that performance? Cardi B joining the group on stage in a form-fitted costume with a cut-out for her growing baby bump, revealing that she and husband Offset are expecting their second child together.
Another performance that got tongues wagging was Lil Nas X‘s Michael Jackson-inspired set for “Montero (Call Me By Your Name).” The rapper turned the stage into an Egyptian kingdom, and though he didn’t slide down a stripper pole into hell to give the devil a lap dance as he does in the music video, Lil Nas X did share a passionate kiss with one of his backup dancers at the end of the performance.
H.E.R. also showed off her heavenly skills when she floated down to the stage like an angel to perform “We Made It,” while Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Swizz Beatz and others honored the late DMX with a performance.
With so many memorable performances, we know it’ll be tough to pick just one, but we want to know: Which set was your favorite from the 2021 BET Awards? Need a refresher on all the acts? Check out our ranking of all the show’s performances.
