Fortnite v5.40 server downtime on 6 September 2018

Fortnite went offline for v5.40 maintenance at 08:00 GMT on 6 September 2018. Epic Games used the downtime to deploy the High Stakes update on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and mobile devices.

What happened to the servers

The v5.40 release had been planned for the previous day. Epic Games postponed it after finding a critical controller issue, then scheduled the new maintenance window for 4:00 ET, 1:00 PT and 08:00 GMT on 6 September.

Epic Games did not give a precise reopening time in the maintenance announcement. Players had to wait for the deployment to finish and download the new client update before returning to matches. The September 2018 maintenance window has long since ended.

What v5.40 added

• High Stakes introduced a set of themed challenges and rewards.
• The Getaway placed four jewels in supply drops. Squads had to carry one to an escape van.
• Grappler gave players a new way to pull themselves toward structures and terrain.
• Storm changes damaged player-built structures in its final phases.

The official v5.40 patch notes contain the Battle Royale, Save the World and performance changes released with the update.
