Weezer scores its fourth No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts with Van Weezer, which bows atop both tallies dated May 22.
The set starts with 27,000 equivalent album units earned in the May 7-13 tracking week, according to MRC Data. Of that sum, 23,000 units are from album sales.
Weezer first crowned Top Rock Albums, which began in 2006, with 2009’s Raditude, followed by 2016’s Weezer (White Album) and 2019’s Weezer (Teal Album). The same four LPs also led Alternative Albums, which started in 2007.
Concurrently, Van Weezer debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales, the band’s first leader on the list after it previously peaked at No. 2 three times (2005’s Make Believe and the aforementioned White and Teal albums). On the Billboard 200, the new set starts at No. 11, Weezer’s best rank since Teal reached No. 5.
One song from Van Weezer debuts on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs‘ May 22 edition: “All the Good Ones,” at No. 49 with 1.1 million U.S. streams. It was preceded by a pair of Van Weezer singles, “The End of the Game” and “Hero,” which peaked at Nos. 9 and 17 in November 2019 and May 2020, respectively.
Van Weezer is Weezer’s second full-length released in 2021, following OK Human, which debuted at No. 5 on Alternative Albums and No. 6 on Top Rock Albums in February. Van Weezer was initially scheduled for a May 2020 release but was delayed as the band’s Hella Mega Tour with Green Day and Fall Out Boy was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
