On Sunday, Paramount gave Yellowstone fans a first look at the upcoming prequel series 1883, which will feature Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, the patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family.
The trailer for 1883 debuted Sunday night during the two-episode, season 4 premiere of Yellowstone. Additionally, the Yellowstone season premiere featured a flashback to the 1800s, for a scene where Dutton (McGraw) and his son negotiate with several American Indians who want to bury one of their elders in the territory owned by the Duttons.
In 1883, the Dutton family makes their journey west through untamed portions of America, fleeing poverty to make their home in Montana. The series explores how the Dutton family came to own their expansive ranch property, thus beginning the family legacy found in Yellowstone. The cast of 1883 also features Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan and Billy Bob Thornton as Marshal Jim Courtright, as well as cast members Isabel May and LaMonica Garrett.
In the trailer for 1883, a voice-over is heard saying, “I heard a thousand stories, but none could describe this place. The road west is filled with failures. It was a dream, and the dream is coming true. We are in the land of no mercy now.”
McGraw and Hill aren’t the only country music artists coming to television soon. Trace Adkins recently joined the cast of the Fox country music drama series Monarch, starring Susan Sarandon. Monarch debuts Jan. 30, 2022.
1883 premieres Dec. 19 on Paramount+.
