Lizzo was the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live yesterday evening (April 16). She performed two songs from her new album Special: the title track, which she debuted live onstage, and “About Damn Time.” Lizzo was introduced by her mother for the first song and played a flute solo during the latter track. Watch the performances and Lizzo’s sketches below.

During the SNL episode, Lizzo starred in sketches spoofing the Black Eyed Peas, TikTok, the YouTube algorithm, and more. In one clip titled “Orchestra,” Lizzo played a professional flutist auditioning for a prestigious symphony orchestra who can’t stop twerking while playing. In a later sketch, Lizzo brought a man home after a first date only to have her grandfather, the bald dancing man from the Six Flags commercials, repeatedly burst into the living room.

Special is out July 15 via Nice Life/Atlantic. It follows her single “Rumors” (featuring Cardi B) from last year and her Grammy-winning breakout album Cuz I Love You from 2019. Lizzo won three awards in support of that LP: Best Pop Solo Performance, Traditional R&B Performance, and Urban Contemporary Album
