On the inaugural episode of New Heights, Taylor Swift went from gridiron novice to devoted NFL aficionado in just two years when she casually mentioned Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. At a training camp press briefing on Thursday, August 14, Goff reflected on the unexpected shout-out.

Asked about Swift’s mention on the podcast, Goff maintained his composure: “It was pretty wild,” he admitted. “Honestly, it was very cool.”

“My phone blew up overnight,” he laughed, reenacting the moment he realized the scale of the buzz. “I checked it and thought, ‘Wow!’ It was definitely a highlight.”

The quarterback’s comments follow the release of the New Heights episode just a day earlier. Joined by boyfriend Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce, Swift confessed that she once believed all players on both offense and defense remained on the field throughout every play.

“I used to think it was just Jared Goff versus Josh Allen until a whistle blew,” the 14-time Grammy winner quipped. “I had no idea what a first down was. I didn’t even understand the chains.”

Since she and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sparked their romance in 2023, Swift has transformed into a bona fide football fanatic. “I found myself sprinting through my house yelling, ‘We’re on the clock for Xavier Worthy!’” she recalled. “My friends were like, ‘Who are you right now?’”

Beyond her football revelations, Swift’s New Heights appearance covered a gamut of topics: life after the Eras Tour, reclaiming her master recordings, and supporting her father, Scott Swift, through recent heart surgery. She also offered a sneak peek at her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, due October 3. Describing the project as “upbeat and bursting with infectious melodies,” Swift promised songs that linger long after the final note.
