Warner Bros. Prepares Major Film Slate for 2027 Including The Lord of the Rings and Superman

The company plans to release five more films next year.

Warner Bros. Discovery intends to release 19 films in 2027, which is five more than in 2026. Company head David Zaslav expects to maintain a similar release volume going forward:

“We are completely confident that we will be able to sustain this increased volume. We have a unique advantage: an exceptional creative team, strong relationships with industry representatives, and a vast amount of intellectual property.”

Zaslav acknowledged that the 2026 schedule turned out relatively modest due to the decision not to release films until they are fully ready:

“Our overall philosophy is to bring a picture to market when it is ready. That is why we are a bit short on major blockbusters this year. We still have The Cat in the Hat and Practical Magic ahead of us, and we believe the second half of the year will turn out well. But if we could do it all over again, we would have distributed the releases between this year and next year a bit more evenly.”

Zaslav did not mention another major film from the remaining 2026 lineup: Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. The picture is scheduled for release on December 18, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. Although the film is produced by Legendary Pictures, Warner Bros. handles its global distribution.

Among Warner Bros.’ biggest releases for 2027, Zaslav listed The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, A Minecraft Movie 2, and James Gunn’s Superman. The company head also mentioned Matt Reeves’s The Batman Part II, although the film’s premiere is currently scheduled for February 18, 2028. Zaslav may have misspoken or referred to as-yet-unannounced changes in the release calendar.
