Warner Bros. Announces Release Date for “Minecraft: The Movie 2” and Reveals First Poster

An official announcement for a sequel to the Minecraft film adaptation was inevitable after the first movie hauled in nearly a billion dollars worldwide.

Warner Bros. has confirmed that Minecraft: The Movie 2 is set to open on July 23, 2027. The news arrived alongside the first poster, which shows a crafting table with two pickaxes crossed over its surface.

The original Minecraft: The Movie debuted in April 2025 and became one of the year’s biggest hits. The picture earned over $950 million at the global box office and currently sits as the third-highest grosser of 2025. Talk of a sequel began almost immediately after release, but official details were sparse for some time.

Early reports suggest Jack Black, who portrayed Steve, will return for the sequel. The first film also featured Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Sebastian Hansen and Jennifer Coolidge, but none of their returns have been officially confirmed.

The announcement has prompted animated discussion among fans. Some fear that Minecraft: The Movie 2 could siphon audience attention from James Gunn’s Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow, scheduled for July 9, 2027.
