Warframe players, it’s time to main Banshee again

One of the most venerable legends in the Warframe roster is finally stepping back into the spotlight with a comprehensive mechanical overhaul.

Since its 2013 debut, Warframe has evolved from a grounded, monochromatic shooter into a sprawling, high-octane space opera. As the game’s universe has expanded, so too has the complexity of its playable characters, leaving some of the older guard feeling somewhat left behind.

Banshee, a sonic-focused powerhouse who arrived during the game’s inaugural year, is currently slated for a significant mechanical refresh. Her existing toolkit—centered on crowd control, staggering foes with acoustic pulses, and marking weak points for precision damage—was once considered the pinnacle of tactical play. However, as Warframe creative director Rebecca Ford notes, the landscape has shifted dramatically.

“It was once the definitive kit because crowd control was so vital,” Ford explained. “But after 13 years, the game has evolved in ways that demand more from our early designs.”

Community director Megan Everett echoed these sentiments, pointing to the sheer influx of intricate, modern Warframes that have joined the fray since 2013. Furthermore, the meta has moved toward high-damage output and area-of-effect meta, bolstered by sophisticated modding systems. “It was time to align Banshee with the current standards of damage scaling and accuracy-based rewards,” Ford added. “That is the core thesis of this touch-up.”

The rework follows years of persistent advocacy from the dedicated Banshee player base. From online forums to live events, the demand for her return to relevance has been impossible for Digital Extremes to ignore.

“The community has been practically chanting, ‘Please, Banshee, please,’” Everett shared. “We even had a fan stand up at Anime Expo and make a direct plea. We heard them loud and clear.”

Digital Extremes frequently keeps a finger on the community’s pulse through regular Devstreams and massive gatherings like TennoCon. According to Everett, Banshee has occupied a high priority spot on their internal list for a long time.

Players can expect to see these adjustments arrive with the autumn update, Iceblade of Narin. The patch will also introduce a fresh, ice-themed Warframe, the arrival of Citrine Prime, and stylish new Deluxe skins for both Qorvex and the revamped Banshee.
