During the TennoCon 2026 showcase, Digital Extremes officially announced that acclaimed voice actor and Critical Role Dungeon Master Matt Mercer is joining the cast of Warframe. Mercer will lend his voice to Brysko, a gritty, noir-inspired detective who serves as the game’s latest playable Warframe.
Brysko took the spotlight during the Warframe: Tau gameplay reveal. Following an atmospheric arrival in the Tau system via a massive humanoid vessel, the demo transitioned to a sequence where Albrecht Entrati repairs the detective-themed Warframe. Equipped with specialized gauntlets designed for high-octane, close-quarters combat, Brysko embarks on a clandestine operation through the urban sprawl of Fornax. The mission culminates in an intense confrontation with Hunra, the Sentient ruler of the region, marking a pivotal moment in the character’s narrative.
The presentation offered a glimpse into a lavish casino environment, featuring interactive minigames and a high-stakes card encounter between Brysko and Hunra. Intriguingly, the narrative also hints at a complex relationship between the protagonist and the casino’s lounge singer, though the specifics remain shrouded in mystery.
Mirroring the hard-boiled tone of classic noir cinema, Brysko’s inner monologue serves as the narrative backbone for the Tau expansion. It is evident that Mercer’s nuanced performance is central to the upcoming expansion’s identity—a collaboration years in the making. Creative director Rebecca Ford admitted that she had spent years actively courting Mercer during their recurring meetings at The Game Awards.
“Living and working in London, Ontario, can feel quite isolating, and you rarely get the chance to connect with your heroes,” Ford shared with Polygon. “However, catching up with Matt at The Game Awards every year became a tradition. I kept asking, ‘Can we please collaborate?’ I knew I had the perfect piece of Warframe mythos for him to inhabit as a fresh character. Thankfully, it finally aligned.”
While Ford remains modest about her networking efforts, community director Megan Everett humorously compared her colleague’s ability to secure top-tier talent to Thanos gathering the Infinity Stones.
Everett also lauded Mercer’s prolific contributions to the medium, noting his work in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and his leadership within the Critical Role community.
“The magic lies in how organic these connections are—it’s about being in the right place at the right time,” Everett remarked. “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to weave these legendary voices into our game, and the results have been truly special. Seeing our ‘Infinity Stones’ of industry talent coming together to bring our vision to life has been incredibly rewarding.”
Players can expect to experience Matt Mercer’s performance when the Warframe: Tau expansion launches in 2026. Note that access to this new content will require completion of all current Warframe story milestones.
