Volbeat Clocks Ninth Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 With ‘Wait a Minute My Girl’

Volbeat sends its ninth song to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, as “Wait a Minute My Girl” rises 2-1 on the Aug. 21-dated tally.

The Danish band last led with “Die to Live,” featuring Neil Fallon, for a week in March 2020. Volbeat’s nine leaders date back to 2012, when “Still Counting” reigned for two weeks that July.

The band is now tied for the 10th-most No. 1s in the chart’s 40-year history, alongside Aerosmith. Shinedown leads all acts with 16.

Concurrently, “Girl” lifts 11-9 on the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart with 2.9 million audience impressions, up 3%, according to MRC Data. It matches the band’s best rank on the chart, previously achieved by “The Devil’s Bleeding Crown” in June 2016.

In addition to its mainstream rock success, “Girl” hit Alternative Airplay for a week (No. 40, Aug. 7), marking Volbeat’s first appearance on the survey since 2013. “Girl” also bullets at No. 10, a week after reaching its No. 8 high, on the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart, having drawn 188,000 U.S. streams in the Aug. 6-12 tracking period.

The song is currently a standalone single, after Volbeat’s most recent full-length, Rewind, Replay, Rebound, debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the Top Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts in August 2019.
