Valve’s new VR headset “Deckard” may already be in production — media

Valve is preparing to make a return to the virtual reality market.

The Chinese analytics firm XR Research Institute reports that Valve’s next VR headset, dubbed Deckard, has entered mass production. They estimate the company will produce between 400,000 and 600,000 units in the first year.

The story was published by UploadVR and has been backed by well-known Valve insiders Tyler McVicker and Brad Lynch (better known online as SadlyItsBradley). Lynch noted that the latest SteamVR update references two models — Deckard DV1 and Deckard DV2. According to Valve’s internal naming, the DV suffix indicates a final testing phase prior to retail versions, which are typically marked as PV.

That detail could mean Valve is preparing two distinct devices or, at minimum, two variants of the upcoming headset. Earlier leaks suggested Deckard might debut in late 2025 with a ballpark price of about $1,200, but those figures remain unconfirmed.

Deckard would be Valve’s second VR headset after the Index, which launched in June 2019. The Index was released alongside Half‑Life: Alyx — the series’ first new entry in many years.

It’s not yet known whether Valve is developing a new game to accompany the Deckard launch, though many analysts view that as likely. Brad Lynch believes an official announcement for the headset could arrive soon — possibly within the next few weeks.
