Twenty One Pilots Bring the Energy For ‘Shy Away’ at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards

Twenty One Pilots gave their new single “Shy Away” its award show debut on Sunday night (May 23) with a performance at the Billboard Music Awards.

Introduced by host Nick Jonas as a song about an older brother’s advice to a younger brother — “something I know a little something about,” the JoBro quipped — the duo rocked the stage in sunglasses and all black. A pink-haired Tyler Joseph danced his way around the stage for the bouncy single, screaming the final chorus and ending the performance with a plug for their new album Scaled and Icy, released on Friday.

Twenty One Pilots are nominated for two awards at this year’s BBMAs, top rock artist and top rock song (for “Level of Concern”). “Shy Away” has been the No. 1 song on Billboard‘s Rock & Alternative Airplay chart for the past four weeks, while hitting No. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Billboard Music Awards are produced by dick clark productions, which is owned by MRC. MRC and Penske Media are co-parent companies of Billboard.
