Travis Kelce Opens Up About Engagement to Taylor Swift Ahead of Chiefs–Eagles Showdown: “My Palms Were Definitely Sweating”

Travis Kelce has offered a few fresh details about his engagement to Taylor Swift.

In a pregame interview before the Kansas City Chiefs’ matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, Sept. 14, the star tight end spoke with NFL on FOX and reflected on the moment he proposed to the pop icon.

“The palms were definitely sweating,” Kelce admitted to Erin Andrews in a clip shared on Instagram. “I’m an emotional guy, so there were a few tears here and there. It’s been an exciting ride up to this day, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her.”

He declined to divulge many specifics, saying he’ll let Swift tell the story in her own words.

The game at Arrowhead Stadium — a Super Bowl LIX rematch between the Chiefs and the Eagles — attracted plenty of attention, and as of press time it wasn’t confirmed whether Swift would attend to support her fiancé from the stands.

Kelce’s interview comes weeks after the couple announced their engagement in late August, posting images on Instagram of him proposing on one knee amid a garden of roses.

They captioned the announcement, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

The engagement caps nearly two years of dating. Fans first noticed Kelce’s interest in Swift during a 2023 episode of his podcast New Heights, co-hosted with his brother Jason Kelce, when he described missing a chance to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number during one of her Eras Tour shows in Kansas City.

As they begin wedding preparations, both are also focused on career milestones: Kelce kicked off his 13th NFL season earlier this month, and Swift is set to release her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, on Oct. 3.
