Two-time Academy Award winner Sean Penn has announced he is preparing to direct a new film, with Tom Hardy set to take the lead role.
“I’m developing a film with Tom Hardy, but we won’t be able to shoot it until next summer because Tom is tied up with the series ‘Gangsterland.’ I think he’s remarkable,” Penn told Vanity Fair.
Plot details have not been disclosed. Penn’s most recent directorial effort, the family drama ‘The Counterfeiter,’ was released in 2021 and drew largely negative reviews. This week Penn also appears in a new film by Paul Thomas Anderson.
‘Gangsterland,’ which stars Hardy, premiered in March of this year and was quickly renewed for a second season. Hardy also headlined the recent Netflix action film ‘Devastation.’
