Tom Hanks to Play Abraham Lincoln

Academy Award winner Tom Hanks is set to portray the 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln, in an ambitious new cinematic project, according to recent industry reports.

The veteran actor will headline the experimental drama “Lincoln in the Bardo,” based on the acclaimed novel by George Saunders. The narrative takes place over the course of a single night on February 20, 1862. The story follows the aftermath of the death of Lincoln’s 11-year-old son, William, as the boy finds himself trapped in the “bardo”—a supernatural, transitional state between the moment of death and the soul’s final departure from the physical world.

The film will be directed by Duke Johnson, the creative mind behind the stop-motion masterpiece “Anomalisa.” In addition to starring, Hanks will serve as a producer on the project. Lincoln has been portrayed by numerous Hollywood legends over the decades, including iconic performances by Daniel Day-Lewis, Gregory Peck, and Henry Fonda.
