This Persona 5 Spinoff Is Finally Bringing Back a Long-Forgotten Fan Favorite

Atlus is finally bringing the beloved female protagonist from Persona 3 Portable into the modern fold, though perhaps not in the way fans initially anticipated. Despite her conspicuous absence from 2024’s Persona 3 Reload—the high-fidelity reimagining of the 2006 classic—the character is officially slated to join the roster of the mobile title Persona 5: The Phantom X.

The collaboration was formally announced via the official Persona 5: The Phantom X social channels on Thursday. For now, details remain sparse; while Atlus confirmed that the character will be identified by her canonical name, Kotone Shiomi, specific launch windows and the duration of the event have yet to be disclosed.

Launched in June 2025, Persona 5: The Phantom X expands upon the established universe of the main series. Players navigate a dual life, juggling dungeon crawling within the surreal "Metaverse" and the grounded demands of student life, such as academics and part-time employment. As a gacha-driven experience, the game centers on a resource-collection loop that allows players to summon new allies. The current lineup is a diverse mix of original protagonists, legacy characters from across the franchise, and even guest stars like Hatsune Miku.

Kotone Shiomi first appeared in 2009’s Persona 3 Portable for the PlayStation Portable. Her distinct personality and unique narrative perspective fostered a deeply loyal following. While Atlus initially cited the limitations of the original Persona 3 source material as the reason for her exclusion from Reload, her arrival in The Phantom X serves as a long-awaited homecoming for the character. Though she may remain absent from the Reload experience, fans now have a new platform to reunite with her.

Persona 5: The Phantom X is currently available on iOS, Android, and PC.
