The Witcher 3’s Next Big Expansion Reveals First Look at Its World

It is a phenomenal week to be a fan of the Continent. CD Projekt Red has officially launched The Witcher 3 Remastered, breathing new life into the beloved, decade-old masterpiece with an extensive array of visual enhancements, performance optimizations, and quality-of-life adjustments. Existing owners can claim the upgrade completely free of charge, gaining immediate access to the game alongside its two legendary expansions at zero additional expense. Building on this momentum, the developers have dropped an evocative musical preview for the upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past.

Milan Records and CD Projekt Red have officially launched The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past (Original Soundtrack Gamescom 2026 EP) across all major music streaming platforms. This newly released EP showcases five original compositions from the upcoming expansion, which initially debuted during CD Projekt Red’s showcase at Gamescom earlier this year. The complete tracklist features:

While Magda Urbańska and Daniel Elms are fresh faces to the iconic franchise, veteran composer Marcin Przybyłowicz—who helmed the breathtaking musical direction for the base game as well as Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine—returns to contribute a pivotal track to the EP. Reflecting on her involvement with the new score, Urbańska shared, “Crafting the auditory landscape for Songs of the Past was an exhilarating endeavor, though it carried an immense sense of responsibility.” She added, “I can still vividly recall the profound impact the music of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had on me the first time I heard it. It was nothing short of legendary then, and that standard of excellence endures to this day.”

What We Know About The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past

Much like the celebrated Blood and Wine expansion, Songs of the Past will transport players to a completely uncharted territory, offering a fresh narrative arc, unique adversaries, and compelling quests for Geralt of Rivia to master. Scope-wise, the add-on is slated to match the impressive scale of the studio’s 2016 expansions. The storyline pulls Geralt out of retirement, drawing him to the picturesque region of Letten where a deeply unsettling conspiracy festers beneath an idyllic surface.

In a departure from the base game and its initial expansions, Songs of the Past is being co-developed alongside Fool’s Theory—a specialized studio comprised of industry talent who previously lent their expertise to The Witcher 3. Fool’s Theory is also spearheading the anticipated Witcher 1 remake. Songs of the Past is scheduled to launch in 2027, though an exact release date remains unannounced.
