The Weeknd’s ‘Thursday’ Mixtape Lands on Streaming Services for 10th Anniversary

On Wednesday (Aug. 18), The Weeknd released his second mixtape Thursday on streaming services in honor of its 10th anniversary.

The Canadian-Ethiopian superstar shared a video — soundtracked by Thursday‘s title track — of multicolored balloons flooding outside of a door on his Instagram Story, which revealed that the original version of the nine-track tape was now available on all platforms.

On March 21, The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) released the original House of Balloons mixtape for its 10th anniversary, and if he follows the pattern to perfect the original Trilogy, he will release the full version of Echoes of Silence on Dec. 21, 2021.

Thursday was released as a free download from The Weeknd’s official website Aug. 18, 2011, sandwiched in between his alternative R&B genre-defying mixtapes House of Balloons and Echoes of Silence for his first compilation album Trilogy, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in 2012.

The only single from Thursday is “The Zone,” featuring fellow Canadian artist Drake. Around the same time, the OVO rapper recruited the XO artist to be a featured singer on “Crew Love,” which he co-wrote, as well as “Shot for Me,” “Cameras / Good Ones Go Interlude,” “Practice” and “The Ride” on Drake’s 2011 album Take Care.
