The Weeknd’s next album shifts into another gear with the release of “Take My Breath.”
Teased earlier this week on the R&B star’s social channels, “Take My Breath” dropped in full at midnight.
Oozing in disco production, “Take My Breath” glitters with warms keys, synth arpeggios and a driving beat. And it’s accompanied by a cinematic visual directed by Cliqua, which comes with a stern warning for epileptics due to its intense strobing effects.
“Take My Breath” is The Weeknd’s first new music since the March 2020 release of After Hours. That album blasted to No. 1 in at least 20 markets, including the U.S. where it became the Canadian artist’s fourth leader.
The Weeknd previously announced “the dawn is coming” at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards in May. “I just want to say the After Hours are done and the dawn is coming,” the superstar said during his acceptance speech after he won the Top Hot 100 Song award for his smash single “Blinding Lights,” which made made history as the first song ever to spend a year in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10.
With “Take My Breath,” the new dawn has arrived.
The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) talked up his new LP in a GQ cover story, which hit newsstands earlier in the week.
