The Wanted’s Tom Parker Says Brain Tumor Is ‘Under Control’

Tom Parker of The Wanted informed fans in an Instagram post on Tuesday (Nov. 2) that his brain tumor is “under control” and his latest scans showed that his condition has stabilized. “I’m sat here with tears in my eyes as i tell you. We’ve got my brain tumour under control. We had the results from my latest scan…and I’m delighted to say it is STABLE. Such a mix of emotions,” he wrote in a post featuring an image of the singer with his wife Kelsey Hardwick and their two young children.

“We couldn’t ask for any more really at this point; a year or so in to this journey,” he added. “Honestly over the moon. We can sleep a little easier tonight. Thank you for all your love and support over the last 12+ months.”

The 33 year-old singer revealed in Oct. 2020 that he was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma, an aggressive type of cancer that can appear in the brain and spinal cord and is often very difficult to treat. He updated fans in January with news that doctors had reported a “significant reduction” of the inoperable brain tumor as he responded well to treatment.

In October Parker revealed in an interview that he’d gone through 30 rounds of chemo and another 30 of radiotherapy sessions and was feeling “very positive” about his prospects. On Thursday morning (Nov. 4), Parker also posted a moving Instagram post cued to Black Sabbath’s melancholy 1972 ballad “Changes” that featured side-by-side before-and-after pics of his treatment.

Parker and the rest of the boy band are gearing up to kick-off their “Most Wanted: Up Close and Personal” tour, during which they’ll perform unplugged tracks from their new album and host a Q&A with fans. The first show is slated for Nov. 12 at Pryzm in Kingston, England.
