“The Tale of Tsar Saltan” Grosses 1 Billion Rubles in 10 Days

Sarik Andreasyan’s “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” has officially surpassed the one-billion-ruble mark at the Russian box office within a mere ten days of its release. This achievement marks the fifth domestic fantasy production to reach this financial height this year, following in the footsteps of “Cheburashka 2,” “Prostokvashino,” and “Buratino.” Among foreign imports, the satirical thriller “The Maid” has seen similar commercial success.

The film serves as a cinematic reimagining of the timeless literary masterpiece by Alexander Pushkin.

The narrative follows the mighty Russian Tsar Saltan, who chooses the modest Annushka to be his bride. However, peace is short-lived as her envious relatives infiltrate the palace and orchestrate a devious plot. By forging a royal decree, they ensure that Annushka and her infant son, Gvidon, are sealed inside a wooden barrel and cast adrift into the vast, unforgiving sea.
