The Rising of the Shield Hero Gets Fifth Season and ‘Global’ PC and Smartphone Game

Kadokawa is continuing to expand The Rising of the Shield Hero universe. Alongside a new anime season, the franchise’s first game — aimed at a global launch — is in development.

Kadokawa has confirmed production on a fifth season of The Rising of the Shield Hero anime. The announcement was accompanied by a short teaser showing barren landscapes, a mysterious figure on a throne, and the protagonist Naofumi Iwatani.

At the same time, the company revealed a “global game project” for PC and mobile devices. That suggests a simultaneous worldwide release rather than a region-restricted launch common to many anime-based titles. The announcement poster features Raphtalia — one of Naofumi’s companions — which may indicate she will play a central role in the game.

The Rising of the Shield Hero is adapted from the light novel series of the same name and follows Naofumi, a student transported to a parallel world. Summoned alongside three other heroes to protect the kingdom, he is given only a shield — an item regarded as weak for offensive combat. After a betrayal, Naofumi is cast out and forced to survive on his own. Over time he assembles a band of allies and rises to lead a resistance.

The first season premiered in 2019, and the fourth season concluded on September 24, 2025. All seasons have been produced by studio Kinema Citrus.

Further information about the upcoming game, as well as the premiere date for the fifth season, has not been disclosed.
