“The Ring” star Daveigh Chase has died

American actress Daveigh Chase, widely recognized for her iconic performance as Samara Morgan in the horror classic The Ring and as the voice of Lilo in Disney’s Lilo & Stitch, has passed away at the age of 35. This news was confirmed by TMZ, citing a statement from her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.

According to Hernandez, Chase succumbed on June 16 to complications stemming from meningitis and a bloodstream infection, which triggered sepsis and subsequent multiple organ failure. The actress had been admitted to a Los Angeles hospital earlier that month suffering from severe exhaustion.

Chase launched her professional career as a child and rose to international prominence in 2002 with two major breakout roles: providing the voice for the titular protagonist in Lilo & Stitch and portraying the chilling Samara in the American adaptation of The Ring. Her unsettling performance in the latter earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain.

Throughout her career, Chase also lent her voice to the English-language dub of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away as Chihiro, appeared in the cult classic Donnie Darko and its sequel S. Darko, and played the role of Rhonda Volmer in the acclaimed HBO series Big Love.
