The Return of a Legend: Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 Arrives on Steam

SNK has officially returned one of its best-known arcade fighting entries to Steam: Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: The Newcomers. First released in 1998, the title is widely regarded as one of the most complete and beloved installments in the Fatal Fury series.

The release arrives with enhancements tailored for modern players and serves as the first entry in the new NEOGEO Premium Selection, a lineup that presents classic games in refreshed editions.

At the game’s core is a 23-fighter roster — the largest in the series: veterans like Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui share the bill with newcomers Li Xiangfei and Rick Strowd, plus the hidden unlockable Alfred. The 2D action retains the renowned Sway Line mechanic, which lets characters switch between fighting planes and adds strategic depth to encounters.

The Steam edition adds rollback netcode for smoother online matches, supports lobbies of up to nine players, includes single- and double-elimination tournament options, and offers a spectator mode for watching matches. There’s also an advanced Practice Mode with adjustable speed, recording capabilities, and hitbox visualization to refine techniques. For collectors, a Gallery Mode contains 59 items — illustrations, character portraits, and archive videos — that immerse players in Fatal Fury’s history.
