Nashville-based singer-songwriter Caroline Spence has enlisted the National’s Matt Berninger for a new song. It’s called “I Know You Know Me.” Listen to it below.

“‘I Know You Know Me’ is a song about the complex beauty of being truly known by someone, especially during times when you are feeling lost,” Caroline Spence said in a statement. “We all have times when we want to hide away, and it is a powerful thing to have someone who won’t let you forget yourself. That’s where this song came from.”

“I’m still beside myself that Matt agreed to be a part of this song,” Spence added. “I recorded my own solo version for my upcoming record, but always saw potential for it as a duet. Matt’s voice brought a new depth to the narrative and the sonic palette of this song.”

Since releasing his 2020 solo debut Serpentine Prison, Matt Berninger has collaborated with Julia Stone, covered the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting for a Man,” and released a new song titled “Let It Be.” He also wrote co-lyrics for the forthcoming musical movie Cyrano, which stars Peter Dinklage and arrives on February 25.

Caroline Spence issued her most recent full-length, Spades & Roses, in 2017. A new album will arrive later this year, according to a press release.
