A brand new podcast on the National, Coffee & Flowers, will launch subsequent February. Among the confirmed friends are Matt Berninger, Aaron Dessner, producer Peter Katis, creator and Bored to Death creator Jonathan Ames, and Mistaken for Strangers editor Carin Besser, who can also be Berninger’s spouse. The first season will focus, one music at a time, on the band’s breakout LP Boxer. Listen to Berninger focus on the report within the trailer beneath.

Journalists Christopher Hooton and David Rapson will co-host. “We believe Matt’s lyrics amount to some of the finest poetry written this century,” Hooton says of Berninger, who will seem in every episode to dissect a key lyric. “With Coffee & Flowers, we hope to elucidate why this band means a lot to so many individuals, and why it may to those that have but to dive in.”

Of Boxer, Berninger says within the trailer, “It all felt like a last chance to be a band. Like, who puts out four records that don’t get much attention? We made two that got none, one that got a little, if this one didn’t get a lot, it was over.”
