Acclaimed actor Matt Dillon, perhaps best known for his haunting performance in The House That Jack Built, has been cast in the lead role for an upcoming series based on the legendary Western The Magnificent Seven, industry insiders report.
The production is slated for the MGM+ streaming service, with Heroes creator Tim Kring serving as the primary showrunner and screenwriter. Dillon will step into the boots of the stern protagonist Chris Adams—a character famously immortalized by Yul Brynner in the original 1960 cinematic masterpiece.
The narrative of The Magnificent Seven centers on a disparate group of hired gunslingers who unite to defend a vulnerable community from ruthless bandits in the late 19th-century American frontier. This iconic story was last reimagined on the big screen in 2016, featuring Denzel Washington. A definitive premiere date for the episodic remake has yet to be finalized.
This project marks Dillon’s continued presence in prestige television, following his notable turns in Wayward Pines and High Desert. Later this year, the actor is also scheduled to appear in the biographical drama Being Maria.
