Tekken X Street Fighter: the game is dead, but not too much anyway, the messes of Katsuhiro Harada

The Tekken X Street Fighter project is what we call in video game jargon a beautiful Arlésienne. Launched in parallel with the development of Street Fighter X Tekken in 2010, this second cross-over was to be the version imagined by Namco and his thinking head of the time on the fighting games side, namely Katsuhiro Harada. But very quickly, the Japanese producer was taken by the throat by other projects, which each time pushed back the game. Obviously, the subject comes up again each time Harada is interviewed by fans of the series. and for years, the latter has always maintained wanting to see the project through to the end. Until a few hours ago, when during a talk show, the latter confirmed that this Tekken X Street Fighter will never see the light of day, since it was outright canceled. He explains that the game’s development was at 30% and that they had worked hard for a rendering that they were quite proud of.

I wish I could show you the characters, but also the rest. We had really successful models. I really wanted to show you Chun-Li and all the characters. The rendering of the female characters was really good, but also the concept art … What a waste, so many artists contributed … I hope I can show them one day, but Street Fighter is a Capcom license, so this does not depend only on us.

It is therefore difficult not to share this sadness, even if the regular interventions of Katsuhiro Harada left little room for the release of such a game. Capcom and Namco on whether releasing the game was reliable and the results were not going their way. And the excellent sales figures of Tekken 7 (more than 7 million copies sold to date) oblige the producer to continue to feed the content of the latter.

However, reversal of the situation, since with the words of Katsuhiro Harada which were visibly awkwardly translated, the latter decided to react on Twitter by explaining that the subtitles of the show were for some incorrect, with even some nonsense. Basically, the situation around Tekken X Street Fighter is no more alarmist than it was before and most likely the project is still considered to be “on hold” and not “dead and buried” as it would be. could understand it. Real misunderstanding in the translation or damage control on the part of Harada, we leave you the choice to judge for yourself.
