Taylor Swift’s ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ Sets New Spotify Record Weeks Before Release

Even before it hits streaming platforms, Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, is already etching its name into Spotify’s history books.

On Sunday, August 31, the 35-year-old global superstar’s Countdown Page soared to become the most pre-saved album ever on Spotify, surpassing the benchmark she set with 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department. The streaming service celebrated this record-breaking feat on its official Instagram and X channels the next morning.

Spotify rolled out the album’s Countdown Page on August 14, complemented by an exclusive playlist—And, Baby, That’s Show Business for You—featuring 22 of Swift’s past hits meticulously curated and co-produced by her longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback.

This milestone underscores Swift’s unparalleled influence on Spotify, where she not only shattered multiple streaming records but also dominated as the platform’s most-streamed artist in 2024 with over 26.6 billion global streams.

Swift unveiled The Life of a Showgirl on August 12, only eight months after concluding her blockbuster Eras Tour. The surprise announcement occurred during her guest appearance on New Heights—the popular podcast hosted by her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, alongside his brother Jason—where a teaser clip revealing the album title was shared on the show’s social media.

Set for release on October 3, The Life of a Showgirl marks Swift’s twelfth studio album and promises 12 brand-new tracks, all helmed by Martin and Shellback.

Her ninth studio effort, The Tortured Poets Department, arrived in April 2024, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the largest opening week of her career. The album went on to spend 17 nonconsecutive weeks atop the chart and secured Swift her seventh Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.
