This Friday (Nov. 12), Taylor Swift will be taking audiences back to 2012, as she puts the spotlight on her classic Red album with the release of her re-recorded Red (Taylor’s Version) — along with several new bonus tracks, much anticipated by longtime fans. But this week, it’s a deep cut from Red‘s predecessor, 2010’s Speak Now, which has really been captivating listeners.
“Enchanted,” Speak Now‘s centerpiece power ballad about a quick-developing romantic infatuation, has been spiking on streaming ever since the calendar page turned to November. As is often the case in 2021, that’s largely due to it catching fire over that period as a TikTok audio — with thousands of videos using the song’s memorable “Please don’t be in love with someone else/ Please don’t have somebody waiting on you” bridge for a moment of emotional catharsis, sending folks to streaming services to listen to the full six-minute track.
For the seven-day period of Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, “Enchanted” notched 1.1 million U.S. on-demand audio streams, according to MRC Data. For the week following, from Nov. 3 to Nov. 9 — the most recent day for which MRC has full data — the song racked up 3.6 million audio streams, a gain of 228%. And the numbers are still rising: On Nov. 9 (this Tuesday), the song passed the single-day million-stream mark for the first time this month, with 1.3 million audio streams in total. (On Wednesday [Nov. 10], the song also entered the top 10 of Spotify’s U.S. daily chart, reaching No. 9.)
“Enchanted” was never promoted as an official single from Speak Now upon the album’s initial release in November 2010, though it still reached No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, immediately following the set’s release week. Check back next Tuesday when the full Hot 100 (dated Nov. 20) updates on Billboard.com to see if the current spike for “Enchanted” allows it to pass its original ranking — before the chart is potentially inundated with songs from the new Red (Taylor’s Version) the week after.
