In case you missed the Starbucks tease, the “All Too Well” short film preview or the news that she’s guesting on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night With Seth Meyers (both Nov. 11) and Saturday Night Live (Nov. 13), Taylor Swift is here with another reminder that Red (Taylor’s Version) is nearly upon us.
Thursday (Nov. 11) morning on Tumblr, an 11-second tease of Swift’s solo version of “Babe” debuted, featuring the song’s sprightly guitar strumming and Swift’s background vocals asking, “what about your promises, promises?”
A co-write between Swift and Train’s Pat Monahan, “Babe” was originally recorded and released by Sugarland in 2018 with Swift as the featured artist; it reached the top 10 of the Hot Country Songs chart and No. 72 on the Billboard Hot 100. A leftover from the original 2012 Red album, Swift is bringing “Babe” to the 30-track re-recorded version of that album, Red (Taylor’s Version), part of her ongoing series of re-releases of her albums on her former label, Big Machine.
The Tumblr tease of “Babe” is fitting for Swift, a long-time Tumblr user who frequently interacts with fans on the platform. Since September, the #RedSeason tag has seen a 125% increase in engagement, according to the platform.
