Taylor Swift Collapsed Into Travis Kelce’s Arms and ‘Cried My Eyes Out’ Upon Regaining Her Masters

Taylor Swift remains profoundly moved when she reflects on the day she reclaimed her original master recordings—a deeply personal milestone she shared on Travis Kelce’s New Heights podcast.

In the episode released on Wednesday, August 13, Swift’s voice quavered as she described collapsing into her boyfriend’s embrace upon learning the news. Though fans only discovered in May—when she published an open letter confirming the acquisition of her first six albums from Shamrock Holdings—the moment had been years in the making.

“Since my teenage years, I’ve been squirreling away every penny to buy back my music,” she revealed, her hand gently cradled by Kelce. “Not owning my masters felt like an incessant, intrusive worry.”

Swift emphasized that it was her mother, Andrea, and brother, Austin, who orchestrated the negotiations with Shamrock. It was Andrea who called her with the triumphant news: “You own your music now,” she said, prompting Swift to drop to the floor, overcome with tears.

Still in disbelief, Swift recounted retreating to a separate room where Kelce was engrossed in a video game. “I told her, ‘Just tell Travis normally,’” she laughed, remembering how her voice broke the instant she spoke to the Kansas City Chiefs star.

Kelce promptly abandoned his controller, enfolded her in his arms, and together they wept—Swift “absolutely heaving,” and Kelce admitting he couldn’t hold back his own tears at the sight of his partner in such relief.

Beyond that emotional reunion, Swift divulged new details about her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, announced via a teaser on New Heights on Tuesday, August 12. Scheduled for release on October 3, it will be her first full-length project since regaining her masters.

While fans hope for a Taylor’s Version of her debut record and potential Vault tracks for the unfinished Reputation project, Swift’s purchase marks the culmination of her re-recording journey. Over the last six years, she’s reissued Fearless, Speak Now, Red and 1989—a journey she described on New Heights as a “defiant” reclaiming of her art.

Reflecting on that process, Swift admitted she rediscovered her love for Red, particularly the 10-minute rendition of “All Too Well,” calling it perhaps her favorite song she’s ever penned. “I’ve always adored Fearless and 1989 in their pure forms,” she added. “But re-recording Red rekindled my passion for it.”
