Take-Two Interactive Stock Drops Nearly $6 Billion in a Month Despite GTA 6 Updates

Some investors have started to regret purchasing Take-Two shares.

In late August, the Grand Theft Auto VI Extended Showcase presentation took place, during which Rockstar Games revealed a significant amount of gameplay footage. Shortly before this, a hacker or group of malicious actors known as Cyberleek emerged and leaked gameplay footage.

Against this backdrop, a drop in Take-Two’s share value was recorded. The price per share fell from over $248 to between $232 and $233, meaning capitalization dropped by nearly $3 billion over the course of several days. Following the gameplay presentation and the recent announcement of the Grand Theft Auto VI collector’s edition, some players checked in on the situation with the shares.

The picture they saw surprised them greatly. Take-Two failed to recover from the share drop, and the price continued to decline, reaching $201.92 per share. This represents a capitalization drop of nearly $6 billion in just one month. Some investors already regret buying the company’s shares.

Analysts attributed the August drop in Take-Two share value to gameplay leaks from Cyberleek, as the hacker showed an unfinished version.

Further declines are being linked to other factors. For example, the price may have been influenced by rumors of a potential delay in the launch of the new GTA Online multiplayer mode, although the developers themselves have not yet said anything about the online mode.

There are also rumors of a possible postponement of GTA VI to December or a later date. Analysts estimate the probability of such an event at only 9%, but some market participants take this seriously and factor in the potential risk associated with the game’s launch timeline.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Nothing has been said about a PC version yet.
