Sven Vincke says Baldur’s Gate 3’s Steam Deck support came about thanks to one developer’s enthusiasm

One developer’s initiative ultimately improved the game across all platforms.

Baldur’s Gate 3 recently received its 34th hotfix, which brings full Steam Deck support. The game now has a dedicated build for Valve’s handheld.

Larian Studios’ head Sven Vinke revealed that this Steam Deck version came about thanks to the enthusiasm of a single developer — he began working on it independently and later persuaded the team to support the idea:

“The story of how this happened is truly driven by passion. The Steam Deck build was initiated by an engineer who wanted the game to run more smoothly on the device, so he started developing it in his spare time.

When we tested it, everyone was surprised by how well it performed, and it didn’t take long to convince us to back and release it.

It’s that pure dedication to the craft that makes me fall in love with our developers again and again. I’m very fortunate to have people like him on my team. Give it a try.”
