The launch of the ambitious space simulator has been delayed far longer than anyone anticipated.
The developers behind Star Citizen are also working on another title — the Squadron 42 campaign — whose progress has likewise been slow. Some argue that dedicating resources to this project was unwise.
YouTuber Camural recently uploaded a video focusing on Squadron 42, and former Cloud Imperium Games developer Robert Peterson offered his perspective:
“I used to work at the Frankfurt studio. I can tell you the UK team spent roughly as much as we did in Frankfurt. CIG has poured millions of backer dollars into all kinds of frivolous things.
According to Robert, much of Squadron 42’s so-called ‘gameplay’ is composed of walking-and-talking sequences where the player has minimal interaction, effectively trailing behind characters played by actors such as Mark Hamill:
“Squadron 42 will be a stunning spectacle, but it will, without a doubt, stand among the worst ‘games’ ever conceived — not to mention produced.”
