Jimmy James, the cherished frontman of The Vagabonds and the voice behind the sustaining ballad “Come to Me Softly,” passed away on Wednesday (May 15). He was 84 years of ages.

The artist passed away in London at Northwick Park Hospital, his family members informedJamaica Observer James apparently had Parkinson’s condition and a heart disease that inevitably caused his choice to relinquish doing.

James, that was birthed in Brown’s Town, Jamaica, relocated to the island’s funding of Kingston to go after songs in the 1950s. He taped tracks for manufacturers consisting of Clement Dodd and Lindon Pottinger, the latter of which generated the very early and initial variation of “Come to Me Softly.”

The Jamaican dancing band The Vagabonds were created in 1960, and the team moved to the United Kingdom at the elevation of the British Invasion in 1964. Throughout their time with each other, the team played along with fellow tales consisting of The Who, Rod Stewart andJimi Hendrix They launched 6 workshop cds with each other: 1966’s The New Religion, 1968’s This Is Jimmy James and the Vagabonds, 1968’s Open Up Your Soul, 1975’s You Don’ t Stand a Chance If You Can’ t Dance, 1976’s Now and 1977’sLife

Jimmy James & & the Vagabonds launched 2 hits that made the Billboard Hot 100: “Come to Me Softly” (which James created), which struckNo 76 in 1968, and “I Am Somebody,” which struckNo 94 in 1976. (In in between those 2 hits, they gurgled under the Hot 100 with a variation of Neil Diamond’s “Red Red Wine.”)

James took place to documents throughout the 1970s, with “I’ll Go Where Your Music Takes Me” and “Now is The Time.” He is made it through by his better half Paula, his 5 kids, 2 little girls and his grandchildren.
