Sony to Bring Back Ape Escape Franchise with New Developers
The reported revival of Ape Escape is gaining more credibility, as the game is reportedly being developed by Evening Star, the studio known for Sonic Mania and Penny’s Big Breakaway. A release is expected during the PS6 era.
Following initial rumors, information about the return of Ape Escape was confirmed by multiple reputable sources, including VGC and journalist Jeff Gerstmann. According to him, details about the project began surfacing in early 2026, including at the DICE conference.
Players initially assumed that Team Asobi would handle the return of the series, but Sony planned from the very beginning to hand development over to an external studio. Evening Star received the project at an early stage, and matching information from several independent sources confirms its involvement.
Sony is increasingly giving forgotten franchises to specialized partners to expand its catalog without distracting core teams from major projects. The company previously used a similar approach to bring back a sports series with Bandai Namco, and rumors also link this strategy to a new iteration of Killzone.
The project is currently in its early stages, so players will have to wait a long time for the game.
