Sony Develops AI Accessibility Feature for Controller Input
Sony has patented an AI system designed to complete unfinished controller movements, helping players with physical limitations perform desired actions in games.
The system will analyze press duration and force, thumbstick movements, and repetitive behavior patterns, while also taking the in-game situation into account to determine user intent and generate the missing part of the control signal.
The solution is intended to be personalized for each specific player, controller, and game, and it will be able to learn from previous sessions. Processing can occur directly on the device or in the cloud.
Sony has also accounted for multiplayer games, allowing AI assistance to be turned off automatically or deactivated manually. An indicator is provided to inform other players about system activity so that the accessibility feature can be distinguished from a potential advantage.
The patent was published on September 17, 2026. It is currently unknown whether the technology will appear in Sony products. The document does not confirm a specific console or controller, a release date, or even the use of the feature on PlayStation.
