Silk Sonic—the duo of Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak—have won the Grammy for Song of the Year at this year’s awards. “Leave the Door Open” won over songs by Olivia Rodrigo (“Drivers License”), Ed Sheeran (“Bad Habits”), Billie Eilish (“Happier Than Ever”), Justin Bieber (“Peaches”), Lil Nas X (“Call Me By Your Name (Montero)”), and Doja Cat (“Kiss Me More”). Brandi Carlile earned two nominations in the category, for her solo “Right on Time” and the Alicia Keys duet “A Beautiful Noise.”
After making their live debut at the 2021 Grammys, Silk Sonic released their debut album An Evening with Silk Sonic in November. “Leave the Door Open” was also nominated for Record of the Year, Best R&B Song, and Best R&B Performance.
