Toronto electronic producer Sickick returns with “Lonely Together,” a soaring new house anthem defined by its emotive highs and immersive soundscape.
Released on Thursday, September 4, the track unites Grammy-nominated soul singer Aloe Blacc and U.K. YouTube phenomenon–turned–DJ Vikkstar in an invigorating collaboration that blends heartfelt vocals with uplifting synth-driven rhythms.
“This one resonates on a whole new level,” Sickick tells Billboard Canada. “’Lonely Together’ is dedicated to dreamers, dancers and anyone seeking refuge in music’s unifying power. Crank it up and let it carry you away!”
Embracing the theme of connection amid isolation, the song opens with Blacc’s stirring refrain: “We’re all lonely alone, feeling everything is wrong / But we know we belong here forever; we’re lonely together,” setting the tone for a journey from introspection to collective release.
Over the course of six months and numerous demos, Sickick refined the composition around Blacc’s original vocal sketches. What began as a potential duet featuring Sickick’s own vocals evolved when Vikkstar joined, infusing the piece with progressive house energy—warm, buoyant melodies and buoyant build-ups that invite listeners to move.
“Aloe’s vocals brought a raw, soulful depth that demanded an equally emotional synth backdrop,” Sickick explains. “When I layered those chords, I wanted them to feel both weighty and liberating. The process was about shouldering life’s burdens, then shedding them—true catharsis that moves the heart and the body.”
