Shin Megami Tensei involves PC as a free Metroidvania

The long-running Shin Megami Tensei sequence has worn many unusual hats through the years. From singular (and now defunct) PC MMO to handheld dungeon crawlers and even spinning off into the mega-popular multi-genre Persona line, there are few unifying parts behind the sequence outdoors of lovable snow-sprite Jack Frost.

To promote the upcoming 3DS re-release of SMT: Strange Journey, Atlus pushed out a faux trailer for a platform journey starring the little snowman and his fiery brother Jack ‘O Lantern. It did appear like a pleasant recreation, although.

One double-fakeout later, and Atlus confirmed that not solely was the the ‘faux’ recreation proven actual, however free, on PC, and out now. Better nonetheless for us english-speaking sorts, there’s a (partial and fan-made) translation patch, so hit the soar for the trailer that began all of it, the sport, and the interpretation.

Developed by a crew led by Japanese indie Krobon, SMT: Synchronicity Prologue is a short-ish Metroidvania with cute sprites, a good quantity of story to chew by and a whole lot of cleverly used spirits, monsters and different weirdos from the sequence adeptly tailored from RPG format to platformer enemies.

You can grab the game here (scroll down, it’s the massive blue button), and due to a beautiful fellow referred to as Brent, you may take pleasure in it in English by following the instructions on Twitter here. There are some issues nonetheless untranslated and there could also be extra to return later, however it’s playable sufficient as-is.

Synchronicity Prologue isn’t the primary recreation from Krobon and crew, by any means. You can get his Castlevania’y Pharaoh Rebirth on Steam here, and he did one other promotional recreation some time again; A  very strong Mega Man parody based mostly on comedy fantasy anime KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on this Wonderful World, bundled with the Japanese Season 2 Blu-Ray launch of the present. While of questionable legality (being a pack-in bonus and all) there’s a fan-translated model floating round as effectively.

Do be warned that Atlus might be taking down the Synchronicity Prologue downloads after December 24th, as a result of there’s solely a finite quantity of enjoyable and pleasure on this world and they’re jealously guarding their provide, so seize it whilst you can.
