Seventeen Feels ‘Extremely Grateful’ for ‘Your Choice’ No. 1 Debut & Aims for Next Billboard Goal

Seventeen talked to Billboard in a new interview Wednesday (July 7) about their latest mini-album’s No. 1 debut on the Top Album Sales chart and where they want to top next.

Your Choice, released on June 18, debuted right where the K-pop boy band wanted it to: at the top. Their first No. 1 effort on Top Album Sales chart (which is also the third overall effort for a K-pop act) sold 20,500 copies in the U.S. in the week ending June 24, according to MRC Data — the act’s best sales week yet. Your Choice also arrived at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 all-genre albums tally, their first entry on the chart.

“We’re just extremely grateful. Like seeing that, we felt like [having our work] paid off is an understatement. And hopefully, we can reach out to more and more CARATs [Seventeen’s fandom name] with every comeback,” Vernon tells Billboard News host Tetris Kelly.

Added Mingyu: “Our CARATs keep congratulating us, but everything was possible thanks to you. We’ll continue to work harder to reciprocate your love with even better music and performances, so please look forward to it.”

Seventeen has been bringing the CARATs plenty of performances at American television talk shows, including their recent stint on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, when the 13-member piece performed the mini-album’s first track “Ready to Love;” The Ellen DeGeneres Show in April; and The Late Late Show With James Corden and The Kelly Clarkson Show in January.

“It’s a huge honor for us to perform on these shows. And it felt amazing to be on these large-scale stage and sets,” Mingyu tells Billboard. “I think my biggest takeaway was that I want to directly show these performances to our fans as soon as possible.”

After self-quarantining last month, Seventeen was immediately ready to go back to work and be thrown back into their regular scheduled programming of “fittings, meetings, briefings,” according to Hoshi, Woozi and Wonwoo. But what’s next for the members in terms of records they’re ready to break and titles they’re ready to take? Seeing their CARATs from all over the world, says Joshua, and seeing their name on another main Billboard chart: the Billboard Hot 100.

“This was the first time we’ve entered the Billboard main charts, so we’d love to enter the main chart again and the Hot 100 next time,” Seungkwan continues. “Also we were nominated for the BBMAs this year, so it would be amazing to receive a nomination for other awards as well… Did I say too much?”
