Selena Gomez Opens Up on Mental Health and Meeting Benny Blanco in ‘Therapuss’ Interview

Selena Gomez was recently featured on the Therapuss podcast, where she and host Jake Shane explored everything from her acting ventures and mental health journey to her relationship with producer Benny Blanco.

They began by reviewing her latest projects before shifting focus to Rare Beauty—the cosmetics line she launched in 2020 that donates part of its proceeds to mental health charities.

Gomez highlighted how her personal struggles have fueled her drive to weave a charitable mission into all her endeavors.

“I tried to share my story in hopes that it would help others, and I think I did that when I admitted that I had struggled through my bipolar diagnosis,” she said. “It felt like a release for me.”

“Then I realized that anything I’m a part of needs to give back. That’s always been my mission—supporting people who feel unseen, unheard, or even lost in their own thoughts.”

“I truly believe in therapy,” she added. “I’m on medication, and I feel fortunate to be where I am today.”

Another major topic was her engagement to Benny Blanco. The couple confirmed their romance in 2023, became engaged late last year, and teamed up on the album I Said I Love You First, released this March.

“I couldn’t be more excited,” Gomez revealed about their upcoming wedding. “There’s so much happening—Benny needs to wrap up his current projects, and we have personal goals we want to finish before diving into all the wedding details.”

“I’ve never felt more certain about something, and I’m careful not to jinx it by calling it that,” she laughed.

Shane also asked how they first met. Gomez explained they initially crossed paths early in their careers and remained casual acquaintances for years.

“He was more of an acquaintance at first,” she recalled. “We worked on a few songs but weren’t close.”

After reuniting for “Single Soon” in 2023, their friendship deepened. “We talked for two hours, and I joked that he should introduce me to someone cute. He invited me to one of his dinner parties, and the rest is history.”

“He was nervous because mixing work and romance felt risky. I remember telling him, ‘I don’t care—just kiss me.’”
