SCS Software Showcases Prototype Interchanges for Turkey in Euro Truck Simulator 2

The developers are preparing a very large expansion.

The developers of the truck driving simulator Euro Truck Simulator 2 continue to work on the Turkey-themed expansion titled Soul of Anatolia. Developer SCS Software has published a development diary featuring comments from Pavel, a map designer with seven years of experience.

The specialist discussed his work on roads in Euro Truck Simulator 2, showcased elements of the road network, and presented an example of a technical assignment for the road department, which includes the coordinates of a pre-assembled prototype, a diagram, and a brief description:

Since by the time I start my work the project has usually already been in development for some time, I create pre-assembled interchanges separately from that project, on a special test map where I also test new prefabs. On this map, I always start with a rough prototype assembled by hand.

Pavel aims to design road interchanges so that they are as close as possible to their real-world counterparts:

First of all, you need to choose the appropriate number of lanes and the type of road intersection. Then I refine the prototype, adjusting the turning radii and specifying the length of the road sections in accordance with our established rules. I try to calculate and build everything so that the interchange matches its real-world counterpart as closely as possible, takes up as little space as possible, and remains convenient to drive through. When I am satisfied with the prototype, I copy it into the project and place it in its intended location, where it may undergo a few more minor adjustments. After that, my work on the interchange is complete.

Speaking about the scale of the Soul of Anatolia DLC, the developer stated:

From my perspective—since I mostly work on roads—this DLC is truly huge. For example, on the map we have more than a hundred major highway interchanges. For me, the main challenge is to ensure that these interchanges meet our requirements while everything still fits on the map.
