Sam Smith Signs Publishing Deal With Warner Chappell, Tim & Danny Music

Tim & Danny Music has partnered with Warner Chappell Music and Sam Smith on a new global publishing deal that will cover the singer’s future works, the companies announced today (Nov. 1). The deal, which will be a joint venture, is the first signing as part of a partnership between the two publishers, which is focused on the U.K. and international markets.

Tim & Danny Music is a full-service entertainment company led by longtime music managers Tim Blacksmith and Danny D. which works with artists like Charli XCX, Emeli Sandé and Gorgon City and encompasses Delirious Blacksmith Management, Stellar Songs, 45th & 3rd Music, StarRoc and Tim and Danny Records. Smith, of course, is the author of three top five Billboard 200 albums, including Love Goes, which reached No. 5 upon its release last October.

“Sam is truly one of the world’s greatest talents, as both a captivating performer and inspiring songwriter, and it’s wonderful to be working with them again,” Warner Chappell co-chair/CEO Guy Moot said in a statement. “I’m also quite thrilled about our new business relationship with Tim and Danny, two of my oldest friends in the music industry and incredible entrepreneurs. They have an outstanding track record, including supporting Sam since the beginning, and I know this is the start of a long and successful partnership.”

Smith has also recorded five top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the 2014 smash hit “Stay With Me,” which reached No. 2, while the 2015 single “Writing’s On the Wall,” written alongside songwriter Jimmy Napes for the James Bond film Spectre, won them a Golden Globe and an Academy Award for best original song. Smith was previously signed to Sony Music Publishing before this new deal.

“I’m so excited to carry on my musical journey with Tim and Danny who have supported me since the beginning of my career, and also really happy to team up with Guy, [Warner Chappell co-chair/COO] Carianne [Marshall] and the Warner Chappell family,” Smith said in a statement. “Looking forward to this next chapter of my career.”
